What is Enhanced 911 (E911)?

November 23, 2022 // Product

Emergencies happen. When they do, a quick and efficient response time is critical to mitigating damage. Taking advantage of Voxology’s Emergency Calling service is a simple, cost-effective way to assure you save precious minutes during an emergency.

Using Voxology’s Enhanced 911 (E911) service, you are able to register a physical address (ie., business’s address) to your phone number so when 911 is called, the dispatcher automatically receives the address.

When a 911 call is placed, it is routed to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) based on the location of the phone number. E911 adds important information to an emergency call that can help expedite the emergency process.

E911 allows a verified physical address to be registered to the phone number itself, so the PSAP routing decision can be determined by the actual registered address of the phone number (not just a logical guess), furthermore, the emergency dispatcher automatically receives the registered address during an emergency call.

How do I add E911?

Voxology customers can easily enable and set-up E911 addresses to their local phone numbers through our customer portal or via the API.

Once the address has been verified and registered, you can place a test call to 933 to confirm the correct address has been registered in the PSAP database. If the emergency address was correctly applied to your phone number, an automated voice will read the correct address back to you.
